MESARI

Furniture Design | Teckococo, Bali - 2014

The Mesari Armchair was developed in collaboration with Bali-based furniture brand Teckococo as a study in sculptural form, material contrast and production-led design thinking.

The core concept merged two distinct timber profiles into a single continuous gesture - a structural leg and a sweeping armrest unified through proportion and negative space. The contrast in tone, achieved using ethically sourced Javanese teak, emphasised the intersection of these two forms while celebrating the natural integrity of the material.

Beyond aesthetics, the project demonstrates end-to-end industrial design capability. The chair was modelled in SolidWorks CAD, enabling precise structural refinement before prototyping.

Development then transitioned into hands-on collaboration with local craftsmen, balancing digital accuracy with traditional woodworking expertise.

Material sourcing was considered from the outset,  visiting the teak factory in Java during the production process to oversee material selection and ensure ethical supply chain alignment.

The chair was designed with modularity in mind. Clients could customise varnish finishes and select upholstery fabrics and colours, increasing product versatility without altering the core structural design.

Commercially, Mesari became a best-seller within its first month and remained in production for several years, validating both its design appeal and production viability.
